It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Gary Spurling, (Retired District 3).

Obituary for Gary L Spurling

Gary L. Spurling, 70 of Bloomington, passed away on Monday, September 24,
2018 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Gary’s service will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 12pm at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington with Pastor Dan Jassman officiating. Following the service burial will be held in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington with military honors conducted by the Bloomington/Normal American Legion Honor Guard.

Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gary was born on February 10, 1948 in Lincoln, Illinois. He is the son of Merlin and Mary (Langley) Spurling. He married Barbara Kiper on March 24,
1995 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Gary is survived by his wife Barbara, Bloomington; children, Angela Snyder, Pontiac; Amy Veach, Kama Snyder and Briannon Snyder all of Bloomington. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Hayden and Austin Veach, his brother, Larry
(Cindy) Spurling, Ohio and sister-in-law, Coleen Spurling of Ottawa, IL.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Troy Spurling and a brother, Terry Spurling.

He served in the US Marine Corps and worked as a Police Officer for the Secretary of State Police, retiring in 2001 after 23 years. He was a member of the National Fraternal Order of Police and the American Legion Post 1150, Downs.

Gary enjoyed boating, camping and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
