Robert’s Obituary

Robert B. Louden, age 89, of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away at 4:49 a.m.
Friday September 7, 2018 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst. He was born September 28, 1928 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Benjamin and Ruth Smiddy Louden. On September 4, 1945, he married Joyce Stevenson in Burlington, Iowa.

Bob attended the South School, (country school) and Terre Haute High School in Terre Haute, Illinois. He later graduated from the Police Academy in Springfield, and several seminars and training classes in law enforcement.
He served as a police officer for over thirty years. He was an Illinois Conservation Officer, the Henderson County Sheriff, and was a Sergeant with the Illinois Secretary Of State Police, for several years.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping, and mushrooming. He also enjoyed shooting pool, and played adult baseball and softball in his younger years. He was a volunteer fireman for the Terre Haute Fire Dept and served on the school board for the Terre Haute elementary school. He was a private pilot and a former member of the Civil Air Patrol. Bob was a 50 year member of the LaHarpe Lodge #195 AF & AM, and a member of the Terre Haute United Methodist Church and in later years, attended the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, one son, Larry (Pat) Louden of Hot Springs, AR, five grandchildren, Stacey (Mitch) Allen, Jeff (Jamie) Louden, Krystal
(Mark) Van Worth, Katie Ball, Benjamin (Kelli) Louden, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, and three sisters, Barbara Sutter of Burlington, IA, Marilyn Ingram of Carthage, MO, and Linda Louden of Apache Junction, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Rodney Louden, one daughter, Laura Ball, one granddaughter, Bethany Neppl, one sister, Elizabeth Moore, and three brothers, Don, Roger, and David Louden.

Masonic Rites will be at 4:45 p.m. Monday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, followed by visitation with the family from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday September 11, 2018 at Banks & Beals with Rev. Lee Unger and Pastor Lisa Unger officiating. Burial will follow in the Terre Haute Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Terre Haute United Methodist Church and the Stronghurst United Methodist Church. Please visit to sign the guest book and leave a condolence.
