It is with deep regret that we announce the Passing of William L. “Bill” Brooks, Father of Retired District #4 Investigator Terry Trueblood.

William L. “Bill” Brooks
December 21, 1934 – October 27, 2023




William L. “Bill” Brooks, 88, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:13 A.M., Friday, October 27, 2023 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Bill had been an Illinois State Trooper from 1957 until 1987, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin.

He was born December 21, 1934 in Perry County, IL, the son of Hallie and Elva Arleen (Wilks) Brooks.

He married Charlene Neville on August 3, 1952 in Du Quoin, IL and she preceded him in death on June 18, 2015. He then married Bonita Wampler on May 7, 2016 in Du Quoin, IL and she survives.

He is also survived by four children – Karen Sue Downs and husband Mike of Springfield, IL, Thomas Brooks and wife Joyce of Chatham, IL, Phillip Brooks and wife Cindy of Elkville, IL, and Terry Trueblood and wife Ruth Ann of Effingham, IL, one son-in-law – Gary Turner of Johnston City, IL, one brother – Robert A. Brooks and wife Marilyn of Tamaroa, nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one daughter – Virginia Turner, and two granddaughters – Shianne Turner and LeAnn Trueblood.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 P.M., Monday, October 30, 2023 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Friends may call from 2:00 P.M. until the time of service on Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin, IL.

Friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
