Dennis Marion Flowers, 75, of Mulkeytown, passed away at 1:26 a.m., on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Reflection Memory Care in Carterville.

Dennis was born on July 17, 1950, in Christopher, the son of Thomas Marion and Verla Mae (Mann) Flowers. On September 22, 1969, he married Cheryl Ann Starasta in Pinckneyville. Together, they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage.

A 1968 graduate of Zeigler-Royalton High School, Dennis began his working years at Noto’s Service Station in Zeigler and later worked at Norge in Herrin. Dennis went on to become a coal miner, working for many years at Old Ben 24 and 25. After the mines closed, he continued his career with Joy Coal Company in Mt. Vernon until his retirement.

Dennis was a longtime member of the Zeigler Eagles. He had a true passion for restoring classic cars, especially his 1965 Mustang, 1962 Ford Galaxie, and 1954 Ford truck. He was truly a jack of all trades who could fix just about anything. Dennis even built his own home and enjoyed remodeling and working with his hands. Above all, some of his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandson Mason.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Cheryl Flowers of Mulkeytown; son, Stephen Michael (Amy) Flowers of Goreville; daughter, Kathie Ann Flowers of Mulkeytown; grandson, Mason Flowers of Goreville; sisters, Carol (Vick) Herbert of St. Simmons Island, GA; brother, Thomas Flowers of Zeigler; sister-in-law, Robin (David) Gallo of Johnston City; nieces and nephews, Melissa Flowers, Tim Flowers, Katrina (Josh) Carney, Billy Robertson, and Jarret Herbert; several great nieces and nephews. Dennis is also survived by his cats, two grand-dogs and several grand-cats.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Thomas Charles Flowers; father and mother-in-law, Nick & Helen Starasta; brother-in-law, Nicky Starasta.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Vantrease-Pyle in Zeigler with Ryan Buckingham officiating. Interment will follow at Zeigler City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 20, 2026, at the funeral home.
