November 12, 1947 – February 21, 2021





Philip E. Palmer, 73, of Pana passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was born November 12, 1947 in Pana, son of James V. Palmer & Betty (Puckett) Palmer. Philip married Gloria Mundy in Las Vegas, Nevada. They have been married for over 20 years and she survives in Pana.

Philip was a graduate of Pana High School and went on to receive an associate degree in computer programming from Lakeland College. Philip served in the U.S. Army as an Aircraft Maintenance Crewman in Fort Carson, CO from 1966-1968 and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Pana. He was a member of Eagles Club #4109, Pana for over 30 years where he reached National Honors highest station, The Eagles Hall of Fame and was State President from 2017-2018. He was a former Borg Warner employee for 15 years. Philip owned Palmer Candy Shop for several years and was a retired computer programmer for IDOT. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, & just doing the best to take care of his family. His life was the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

Along with his wife Gloria, Philip is survived by his children: Chris (Kira) Palmer, Vandalia, IL; Philip “Cork” (Stephanie) Palmer, Jr., Pana, IL; Jon (Barb) Palmer, Herrick, IL; Celena (Kelley) Jackson, Pana, IL; stepson: Samuel “Sammy” Baldock; mother, Betty Temmen; grandchildren: Adam Palmer, Alli Palmer, Ashley (Kevin) Keeling, Amanda (Josh) Bratcher, Samantha Mink (significant other David Wallbright), Gina Palmer (significant other Sean Neville), Terra (Cody) Sehi, Jennifer Thompson, Cheyenne Palmer, Josh Palmer, Robert Jackson, Ashley Baldock, Bo Baldock & Braxton Slayback; several great-grandchildren; siblings: Wanda (Charles) Dunmire, Mt. Pulaski, IL; Pam Morrison, Pana, IL; Robin (Brad) Moomey, Owaneco, IL; Judy (Darryl) Rothermich, St. Charles, MO. He was preceded in death by his father James V. Palmer; stepdaughter, Stacy Battles; and siblings: James “Jim” Palmer, Herb Palmer, Vince Temmen, & Martha Miller.

Funeral Mass for Philip will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2021 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Rodney A. Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by the Pana Veterans Honor Guard and Eagles Rites by Pana Eagles Post #4109. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time in the church.

Memorials in Philip’s honor may be made to Fraternal Order of Eagles for Diabetes and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family. Per family’s wishes casual attire is requested.
